two ns locos and a couple boxcars derailed early this morning in philly… seems like ns is derailing all over the place the last few months… link to the story plus video…
Yeah but we’ve had a lot of rain the last few weeks. Also, I’ve seen that wall, it’s extremely extremely ancient, so NS really isn’t to blame here, at least in my opinion.
oh no, i wasn’t trying to suggest that NS was to blame… i was implying they’ve had some bad luck… nothing they could have done… just bad timing to come around that corner before anyone had noticed the mudslide
This is one of those, “It’s not what happened, it’s where it happened,” stories.
Right next to a major highway on the outskirts of a metropolis - big headlines, photos, more on the next newscast.
Out in the boondocks, two miles from the nearest country lane - one column-inch on page 26 of the newspaper, maybe.

You aren’t kidding. Goign somewhere around 35mph and only the locomotives and first two cars came off the track? Notice where the pile of dirt on the tracks is in relation to the derailed cars - looks like they got it hauled down mighty quick. I dunno if track speed there would eb 35 though, but that’s what the NS guy said. If that’s where I think it is, a short way ahead the tracks will cross under the highway, and then go through the Flat Rock tunnel.

What kind of locomotives were those? They look like GP40 high nose is that correct?
No, they look too big. Probably 50’s or 60’s

one of the locos was NS 5345 which is a gp38-2
3201 was leading, it’s a high-nose SD40-2. The symbol was H5A
