No had mat spill. Just made a lot of bird food. (& deer feed)
The rails look like they should have been ground long ago!!!
I would agree with Mr. Pack unless the condition of the rails as shown by the photos is a visual apparition.
Clarksfield, the town of origin, is on the Wheeling and Lake Erie, about 25 or so miles east of Bellevue, where it was interchanged to NS.
The pictures were quite obviously taken at long range using a 300mm-length or longer telephoto zoom lens. That tends to magnify track geometry variations, especially in the vertical plane. Since it happened in a crossover and two switches are involved, it is hard to say from these shots what happened other than you have both mains blocked off until everything gets moved off the right-of-way and the track gets rebuilt. Does NS use Hulcher in cleanups? This type of derailment is their bread and butter. 48-hour cleanup with a good crew and no bad weather.
I did a drive-by on Sunday, so five days after the wreck, and there were still cars on the ground in a pile although the right-of-way proper was clear. Lots of panel track stacked here and there, don’t know if it was planned to replace the torn-up sections or used for moving and clearing wrecked equipment. I saw no Hulcher equipment, just NS’s own crews parked around the Horseshoe Rd crossing, can’t say who was working further up the line. Work trains occupying both mains, didn’t look like the line was open at that moment although I was told that it may well have been restored to intermittent service earlier.
