According to what I heard, some of the heritage units, some, including the NS heritage unit was supposed to be an SD70ACe. It isn’t. Any idea why? Or was my source incorrect?
According to the June 2012 Railfan and Railroad, NS originally planned to have the “old” Norfolk Southern paint scheme (i.e. for the steam era shortline Norfolk Southern) applied to new SD70ACe’s at the factory. However they then decided to add Penn Central to the list of railroads they would be honoring and had EMD paint the new units for PC. NS will do an ES44AC for the Norfolk Southern themselves at Chattanooga.
They’ve shuffled the line up a little since the original announcement. Just this week, they added another GE unit for the Monongahela Railway.
An even 20 NS heritage units is a good number.

Would probably be hard to go to 30 for the 30th anniversary.
SO they are still doing a few in EMD paint?
The Savannah and Atlanta SD70ACE was released from Muncy this morning…looks sharp!
