An ES40DC or SD70M-2 in Wabash colors would like nice:) They’d have to decide between WAB’s original 1950s diesel scheme, which the F7A WAB #1189 at the Monticello, IL rail museum wears, or the later early 1960s simplified blue.
NS’s executive F9s look like SOU Heritage units. Well, sort of anyway:)
NS Heritage:
Norfolk & Western
Southern
Wabash
Nickle Plate Road
Norfolk Southern (original)
I’m not even going to count CR and it’s predecessors since that acquisition was a bit unusual to say the least, and CSX owns half of what used to be CR anyway:) I guess it comes down to which road owns more of what used to be PRR and NYC and other CR fallen flags.
NS Research unit 38 was rebuilt from NS/NW EMD SD40 1620 by the NS Juniata Shops in Altoona, PA, for track geometry use. Like NS Research unit 34, the 38 carries track sensors and computer equipment used to monitor track conditions and locate problem areas.
Well, for the track geometry rebuild, creativity points are in order. As for the heritage loco, I’ve seen all sorts of well done Southern “tuxedo” skins on the Trainz download station. I just don’t know how they could really go about a NW heritage scheme…
Both Southern and N&W had well-deserved reputations as no-nonsense operations so I would expect the sun to rise in the west before NS came up with “Heritage” locomotives in a vein similar to UP.
CSX owns the NYC “mark” and NS owns all the rest of Conrail’s old marks. CR, PC, LC, RDG, CNJ, EL, and all their predecessor marks. But, NS does NOT own the rights to their paint schemes and logos. They were not conveyed to Conrail on April 1, 1976 and remain with the pre-4-1-76 owners.
