Howdy all,
Through the grapevine, I heard that the Reading and LV heritage units were on the H-LINLAU yesterday. After work, I headed out to the NE corner of the state to get some shots of them. Weather, railroad operations and some goofy mistakes by the photographer kept me from getting anything truly noteworthy, but I still like a couple of these a lot. For starters, here’s a boring wedgie with good light as its only redeeming virtue:
I probably could have beaten the train to Akron and gotten something more visually stimulating, but I wasn’t sure about that at the time, so this worked as my “good light” shot. It would be the only sunny shot I got. The train got held in Brush for a long time at a location that I couldn’t get to. By the time it was moving again, it was nearing sunset and the sun had disappeared behind some monsoonal weather to the west. I was pushing the limit of my K-5 for this shot (technically, it isn’t the greatest at 100%), but I really like it aesthetically:
After the train passed, I turned to catch it heading north with the last bits of pink still showing to the West:
After this, the light was simply too far gone for any kind of moving shots. There was nothing to do but chase the train in the hopes that it would stop someplace where I could setup for a night shot. That didn’t happen until the train pulled into Ste
