NS Heritage Units in CO (5 IMG)

Howdy all,

Through the grapevine, I heard that the Reading and LV heritage units were on the H-LINLAU yesterday. After work, I headed out to the NE corner of the state to get some shots of them. Weather, railroad operations and some goofy mistakes by the photographer kept me from getting anything truly noteworthy, but I still like a couple of these a lot. For starters, here’s a boring wedgie with good light as its only redeeming virtue:

I probably could have beaten the train to Akron and gotten something more visually stimulating, but I wasn’t sure about that at the time, so this worked as my “good light” shot. It would be the only sunny shot I got. The train got held in Brush for a long time at a location that I couldn’t get to. By the time it was moving again, it was nearing sunset and the sun had disappeared behind some monsoonal weather to the west. I was pushing the limit of my K-5 for this shot (technically, it isn’t the greatest at 100%), but I really like it aesthetically:

After the train passed, I turned to catch it heading north with the last bits of pink still showing to the West:

After this, the light was simply too far gone for any kind of moving shots. There was nothing to do but chase the train in the hopes that it would stop someplace where I could setup for a night shot. That didn’t happen until the train pulled into Ste

Very Nice!!! [tup]

ABSOLUTELY!

What Stourbridge Lion said!

Loved the effects you got with the night lighting shots.

I am sure the Reading Fans will love those shots.

Pretty Cool Stuff! Thanks, for sharing them.

Thanks, Darren and Sam!

Trust me I am checking EVERY and I mean EVERY NS Train that is Interchanged with the BNSF to hopefully see any of the Heritage Units on it. I might Get Lucky Sooner or Later and If I do I will let the Trains Boards KNOW IT.

I sure hope that every hogger and conductor that gets a chance to run that Reading unit as well as the Pennsylvania unit, takes a picture of it and them, so they can show their kids and grandkids the next time they play Monopoly.

Corrected.

They apparently came through on the BN main line through Mendota.

I know they did I was talking about the Old ATSF Streator Connection that is less than 1/10 of a Mile from my house. I can see it from the Street. When the Crops are down I do not even have to LEAVE my porch to Railfan the ATSF Transcon that is about 1/4 of a mile away have a good set of Field Glasses and I am set.

I know what you meant, I originally posted that they came through Peoria on the old NKP but realized the Peoria blog guy went up to the Quad Cities to take that photo so I had to change my post.
