About a year and a half ago, the finishing touches were put on a reqactivated coal mine operation at Windber, Pennsylvania, located about a 20 minute drive from the NS West Slope mainline.
The South Fork Secondary Line branches off the NS mainline and heads South toward Central City, Pa where coal is loaded at two locations.
A third location was added last year by reactivating a spur line that branches off the South Fork Secondary, through downtown Windber and up a couple of miles to a tipple operated by the Rosebud Company.
Coal is mined there, and is also trucked in from elsewhere to be loaded by train.
One or two trains a week are loaded at Rosebud.
3 SD80MACS shove empties under the tipple one day last week, as more coal trucks are seen rolling by with more coal for the operation.
