NS merging with CSXT????

Is CSXT going to take over NS in 5-20 years from now or the other way around???

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Seriously though, neither is likely to happen. One big railroad in the eastern part of the country = bad.

Ditto Mark.

I don’t see that ever happening! It would leave the eastern US with only one major US owned class 1 carrier and that would NEVER be approved in DC.

Yeah, MONOPOLY. BTW, did something happen that made you think they were going to merge i.e. you saw a CSX locomotive on NS tracks or visa versa?

WELL… i have seen alot of NS train on the chicago main line and it is not because of eastern NY floods.

Oh, maybe NS got some new trackage rights or something but for the 2 eastern giants to merge like that is just simply impossible.

CSX and NS will have shared assets over each other.

Here’s a great question for our last night on the forum…

Who knows???

LC

No, what you have seen is CSX using a lot of NS power, it means nothing about the ownership of the lines or how the companies are doing financially…

LC

Oh boy. Another one of these topics! OH WELL!! [:D][:D] In my opinion, it won’t happen. I see a lot of different locomotives around here on the BNSF lines…Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific, Canadian National, and…believe it or not…the occational CSX unit, sometimes even the lead loco on a train. Railroads have a lot of pooled power, don’t they?

As I write this, quickly before the plug is pulled, the thread above this one says it all…

“Of all the silliness…”

I fully expect, one day we will end up with Two Major carriers in the US. CN and CP

We almost see more CSX and NS locomotives on the Union Pacific trains through here, and every once in awhile, someone will ask if that means a merger is coming. Today I saw a coal train with BNSF on the point, two TFM, one KCS then one BNSF and a KCS on the rear…on the UP main. Must be a merger a-comin’…

Being not quite an old-timer, more like a middle-agetimer, concerning the “we will never have only 2 railroads in this country” statements…does anyone recall if, say, in the early '80s with the demise of the Rock Island, BN getting the Frisco, CSX and NS appearing…did anyone back then mutter “ah…they will never allow only 7 railroads in this country”???

no csxt will not take over ns with in that time period because they are the two biggest rivals in the northeast, south, and midwest. i am only 18 and know about both companies.

A) can anyone say “MONOPOLY” ?
B) If it did happen I would guess NS eats up CSXT because NS’s financial situation is better.
