NS releases Nickel Plate Road heritage unit
My favorite so far.
One has to wonder if today’s railroad’s image has advanced significantly when a 60 year old paint scheme looks better on a modern locomotive than any modern paint scheme?! The Heritage Nickel Plate Road unit is the most striking modern diesel on the rails!
Looks damn good… Damn good.
Great job NS! The locomotive looks great!
It is disappointing that the Nickel Plate is gone. Their management could help our railroads today.
I keep dreaming about these units and what they will look like, then I wake up and the reality is better than the dream. I can not wait to see them all together somewhere. (maybe a hot afternoon in Roanoke in June maybe).
I work for CSX, and I have to give NS credit. The 1st three Heritage units look great and I am sure the next fifteen will be awesome as well, great job NS!
I sure hope to see the unit plying it’s effort along the Chicago/Ft Wayne line where the 700’s once roamed. It’s great to see the old Nickel Plate reborn. God Bless em!
Thanks for taking down memory lane. Wish it was a REAL NKP locomotive.
I know paint jobs cost a lot of money, but ns needs to start painting all their locos different colors like the heritage units. Ns dominates the east along with Csx. They need livelier paint schemes other than black and white.
Congatulations to NS for some neat recognition of their history. The modern diesels in historic liveries are really great. Kudos to NS for innovative thinking. I hope that when they get all of the units painted, they will hold an expo for railfans, where all the units will be displayed and we can take pictures to our heart’s content. Manufacturers, are you starting your projects to get these heritage units to us in N, HO, and other scales? I know I will buy them.
Can’t wait to see them run thru Bristol Va. Thanks NS job well done. Wish I could track their location.
It looks as good on a modern locomotive as it did on the original NKP diesels. Altoona can still get it done. Hope they still have some original stencils for the PRR unit.
I have to say so far the Southern unit and the NKP unit look far superior than the NS units they are coupled to! I too can’t wait to see the other paint schemes! This is a great program and I hope it generates a lot of good publicity for the railroad.
How would one find when and where they would be running?
Pretty sharp looking scheme - I wish the BNSF would do this. Way to go NS.
Yessss!!! Cant wait for the Wabash!
This locomotive are beautiful. I just hope that they do a TAG and a Tennessee Central
Stunning!
great photo. hope to see more saw the southern one on roanoak web cam
