NS south fork secondary

Hey,

I was in South fork today, and I drove my car up the access road into the yard in South Fork, signs said no trespassing, Now I know not to trespass, but what are the rules with trespassing for South Fork, I drove up suickly snapped a Picture of an SD80mac, and drove away. There was 5 engines in the yard and I want to get more pictures but, I don’t want to get in trouble or cause any. Am I aloud to drive up the road to see trains or should I stay away from the rail yards north end, and just stay in the south end where they can’t see me?

any one?

I seriously doubt any railroad allows for a “fudge factor” on trespassing, as you seem to suggest.

Here in Chicago, the line you don’t cross is dead even with the no trespass signpost; i.e., you don’t belong anywhere past the sign and are subject to arrest and fines and perhaps even a free vacation.

Tjsingle,

The town of South Fork, from what I understand, can be picky with railfans, read this somewhere once. I have been there and there is an area right by the junction of the branch and main line that was open enough, just have to be careful where you park. we had no trouble there but didn’t venture up the branchline. are sites devoted to this area on other groups and there is apparently enough to see, aside from the constant mainline trains. Another thing to be considered, the old SO tower that was right there just burned down, last I heard they were suspecting possible arson. So things might be a little tricky out there right now, not sure but just wanted to mention.

If I recall, we weren’t trespassing, its a small town though.

Just my opinion, but if you must pass a sign of “no tresspassing” on your way in to a location, I’d say you are in violation of said rules.

PS: South Fork, Pa., is near my home area…{Somerset, Co.}.

Tommy,

I was there last August with Rich Thompson. We went just as far as the entrance to the branch property, but no farther. If you look at Rich’s pictures on the Archive, you can see that there is a lot to see in the distance, but we kept away. There are a couple of alleys in the village which allow a view farther down the yard. Not great, but better than nothing.

Rich had the best shots of the day, having gone down the main line far enough to include SO tower in his views. I was too lazy to walk that far. Had I known the tower was going to burn, I would have made the trek.
