Well to be honest , the NS power car was built last year. So I thought while taking a photo of the new southern MOW car ,why not throw in the power car too.
This southern freight car, started off as an old model die cast 40’ boxcar {was just the trucks and frame }. Then I used a life-like forty foot box-car shell, hacked the shell up,taking 14’ scale feet off of it. I kept the end of the box-car to be used as the cap.I then painted the model with box-car red Krylon primer paint.
I added a scratch built wood floor, using wood coffee stir sticks from the gas station. I used indian ink to stain the wood and cut them the length, gluing them to the floor. Decaled this car southern, painted a life-like generator and added a bug screen to it. Lastly , I built a fuel tank for the hungry generator. I’ll add more odds and ends as time progesses.

I don’t think Southern ever made this car,was imagineered from a Canadian National MOW car. I have a couple more MOW cars planned and a five car rail carrying N&W orange train also in the mix.
Thanks Ken, for the kind words. I just checked my e-mail, it seems that peach creek shop guy {John} sent out an e-mail with picture links to russia steel mill equipment. One of these pieces of equipment being a high line charge car and a bunch of other equipment also. Photos & drawings of each piece.
The Southern car took just under an hour & 1/2. The NS power car {built last year} took two evenings to complete. NS power car was a roundhouse 40’ box, with a walthers prime mover 567 engine inside. I’ve never seen a NS power car like the one I built…I just thought it would be cool to build.
I have two athearn passenger cars , one baggage and the other ??? I’d have to dig it out to see what kind of passenger car it is. Anyhow…painted like the one NS uses, down to almost every detail.
Man I gotta tell you…I can’t weather a piece of rolling stock to save my life. I’m pretty bad at painting to begain with, steel mill rolling stock is always grimey looking. But freight cars thats a whole other story, I’ll break down one day and weather some of the fleet.
