Sounds like eminient domain abuse to me. If the local government wants NS to do it, can’t fight city hall.

NS’s problem is that they picked one of the few places in the Roanoke area where people are relatively well off. There are undoubtably many places in that general area where the economic impact of such a facility would likely be more welcome, but due to Virginia Tech, Montgomery County is in better economic shape. Of course, projects like this always have NIMBY’s, but they should be able to find someplace in the Roanoke area that has decent access to the rails and roads where they can minimize impact to the surrounding community. Could be the right project in the wrong location.
