Look at major catastrophes such as Three Mile Island, Bhopal and Chernobyl and the work schedules of the employees involved.
That graveyard shift is aptly named.

For more than seventy years there have been electro-mechanical devices to control overspeed on subway portals and other locations. Passing a red signal caused the train to come to a full service stop no matter what the operator did or didn’t. Have the cab signal technologies rendered these useless?
