NTSB meeting to determine cause of 2014 O’Hare CTA accident
“The operator reportedly fell asleep…”
If NTSB has to begin an investigation to determine if the veracity of those who “reportedly” said the operator was sleeping is viable or verifiable?..Sorry, I respect and value the NTSB, but…to formally investigate words that probably could be largely confirmed with a lie detector. Why spend the time and money?
Francis, the NTSB already did their investigation, now they’re finally meeting to determine cause, based on the already gathered evidence.
And so they need to ‘MEET’ to tell everyone what they found? Just send a note and save thousands $$$.
I got no clue from the article that an investigation had been concluded, nor even started.
"to determin the probable cause…"Was there a clue I missed?
The NTSB is not looking only at the direct cause of the wreck but also the contributory factors. To say that the train operator fell asleep is the obvious cause. What prevents this from happening again is looking at the work environment, what safety devices were present, and a whole host of other issues.
If the end of track had devices to prevent the train from approaching the end of track at an excessive speed as an example. Or use of and implementation of a fatigue program. The latter not only needs employee involvement but management as well. IE you don’t discipline someone simply because they say they are too tired to work safely.
