numberboard decals

What are the best numberboard decals for diesels with back-lit numberboards?
I’m looking for white see-thru numbers on a black background for differnet size numberboards in HO scale.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

Doug

Microscale Decals have some good decals for lighted number boards…I run SP and use them because they used lighted numberboards…the numbers are clear for the light to shine through with a black backing so that only the numbers have light shine through them…chuck

Chuck,

Do you happen to know the Microscale part number?

Thanks,

Doug

You might also try Shellscale decals. Go to the following link:

These Shellscale decals are not suitable for lighting in the black background models.

Doug,
When you are ready to apply the decals, use black paint or a sharpie around the perimeter gasket (edge of no. board) and any seam to prevent any light leakage from the edges of the black decal film.
You didn’t scroll down far enough w/ the Shell Scale decals to the suitable for backlighting.

Has anyone else ever tried making these on a laserjet printer? I made some in a pinch by selecting the font type and size that I wanted and selecting a font color of white. I then selected a background color of black, printed them out, trimmed to size and adhered them to the loco. The back lighting did illuminate the white without bleeding through the black.

i still have some packages laying around…when i get home tonight from work, 'ill get the numbers and get them to you in this post…chuck

Doug,
the microscale decal sheet is # 87-205 titled “Numberboards”, “Steam or Diesel,” “Lightable” …Chuck

Walthers makes them too, I’m not sure if they can be ordered separately, but they come with most diesel decal sets. They have both black letters on white and white letters on black.

i like the microscale
