numbers

[:)]Do any of you S.P. exsperts no the loco numbers for the 2-8-8-2 I think S.P.had two that were not cab forwards,I have serched the net and come up With a “O” somewhere I’ve seen them,but can’t rember[?][?][?]

I assume you are seeking to model the first two of this class on the system. Hate to burst your bubble, but these two were converted to Cab Forwards by 1914. Until converted they were restricted to operation on the Sunset Route out of Beaumont Ca., which had no tunnels to contend with.

Given the logic of the SP numbering system they should have been in the 4000 series That’s half guess and half dim memory, but somebody who actually knows will probably jump in w/ the straight skinny.

The first MC-1’s were built in a conventional arrangement and were numbered 4000-4001. SP also had coal-burning AC-9’s built by Lima with the cab to rear and numbered in the 3800’s.
