NW2& SW1

What´s the difference of a NW2 and a SW1? Have they both the same window sizes?

Thanks, Christian!

google emd switchers and go to the railfan.net drawings. the differences will be obvious to you. better than i can expain in words.

grizlump

SW1: 600 hp; 6 cyl. 567/567A engine, produced Jan. 1939 thru Nov. 1953 One stack. 660 units produced. The sandbox projecting under the grill is a primary spotting feature.

NW2: 1000 hp.; 12 cyl. 567/567A engine, produced Feb. 1939 thru Dec. 1949 Two stacks. 1119 units produced. The half-length radiator grill identifies it from later EMD switchers.

Both of these had long lives, often continuing in industrial service after their service to first owners was done.
