I’m really interested in learning something about the use NYC did of 20th Century Limited cars after the train’s withdrawal.
I know, for example, that the “Shore” series Club-Lounge cars were sold to Rock Island. But what happened to the other ones? Were they transferred to other trains?
Moreover, during the 1950’s and 1960’s, which other trains did NYC use this type of cars on? For example, is it possible these 20th Century Limited passenger cars (or identical cars) could have been utilized on such trains as Commodore Vanderbilt, Ohio State Limited, Wolverine, Pacemaker and others?
Some of the Century’s cars continued in passenger service on the NYC and then PC. The two-unit diners continiued to be used on the combined single through train each way that had cars from Boston and New York for Toronto, Detroit, Chicago via Detroit, Chicago via Cleveland, St. Louis, and Cincinnati. Ditto some of the sleepers and Slimbercoaches. With Penn Central, cars were mixed up and one could find ex-Century cars on the Broadway, I did ride in Silver Rapids, the one car the PRR contributed to the California Zephyr pool, . a transcontinental sleeper, on the one ex-NYC through train going from New York to Ann Arbor.
