NYC car help

Happened to catch a westbound CSX freight on the old Rock Island main in new Lenox, IL this afternoon. Right in the middle of the train was a solid black cushion coil car with yellow NYC markings. This wasn’t one of the COnrail break up cars with the NYC or PRR. IT was freshly painted and all the markings were in yellow. the NYC was even on the end of the car. I’ve never seen that combination before. It was more like a P&LE car. Anybody know anything about this one?

Doesn’t CSX use NYC on some cars?

Yes CSX uses NYC and NS uses PRR on the equi[ment they took from Conrail bt when they do that they retain the original markings. This was a full repaint with no rust and no dirt. I don’t think it is “The” NYC since it would have been that puke green color with white markings.

it’s jade green, not puke. bah

PC was more of a puke green.

have nyc E8/E9s done as jim six application, would walthers bud cars work? If so,what cars, what train.

it depends on the era you will be modeling NYC changed alot after WW2 trying to bring passengers back so when something new came out, they usually jumped on it. Me personally I’m trying to find smoothside lightweights. the silver corrugated mess looks wrong hooked up to an NYC diesel, but alot if not all the smoothsides I have found have the same paint job as the train so it all matches. You could always use heavyweights to, they were used right up till the end.

Actually, some of us who worked for NYC and then PC at the time called it Sea Sick Green – particularly when it had faded which was about a week after the paint dried (good paint).
