I think the NYC gang car looks kinda cool. Never had a gang car and I dont think I’ve ever seen one operating. Are they a nice operating car? Anybody have one? Any thoughts apprieciated.
Do you mean one like this
Very noisy and has a tendency to run hot. I don’t use mine very often.
DITTO with TOM.
Runs ok but for a time limit.

Ditto with Tom and Laz. Mine needs new brushes, etc, so she is in the shed for the time being. They are kinda cool though. I plan to have a special length of track with bumpers on the new layout that will activate on a timed basis.

Ditto above…it does get VERY hot. Is there a newer version with a can motor and if so does it also get very hot?

seems like a hundred years since I had my temp layout - The Plywood Express running - my gang car ran like a top. I never noticed a problem with overheating.
Mine would get hot enough to give you a burn. I’ve since had it overhauled, first time since getting it in the 50’s??, and it runs much better. Other than testing I haven’t run it long enough to see if it gets too hot.
Hmmm. Never seen one operate?
We reviewed it in our February 06 issue. Here’s a link to the video:

The newer re-issues of the post war motorized units (so far, as far as I know) still have the pulmor motor, they have not re-designed them for can motors. (gang car, fire car, maintenance car, inspection car - hand-cars, of course have small DC motors)
I have an original no. 50 gang car as well. I really can’t add much to what the others have said. I guess the overheating problem is common to all of them. Over a year ago, I asked a question here on the forums about this, which ended up getting published in a recent issue of CTT. Overall, they are a lot of fun and a real crowd pleaser. I would highly recommend getting one.
