NYC long haul tenders

I realize that the NYC Hudsons came with the smaller tenders with the 6 wheel trucks but anyone know where I can lay my hands on the later large capacity centipede style tender drawings so I can scratchbuild or modify an existing centipede style to go with my Hudson in HO. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I do not know if there were subtle variations, but the basic lines and design of the 4-10 pedestal tender used behind the NYC Niagara is a good match for the retrofitted Hudsons. Both carried 18,000 gallons of water and 40 tons of coal, and were fitted with scoops for taking water ‘on the fly’ from track pans.

The Union Pacific version was very different, carrying 25,000 gallons of water, 25 tons of coal and lacking the scoop. It also lacked the long rear overhang of the NYC design.

Hope this helps.

Best bet…get hold of Bachman’s parts dept and get a replacement tender for their NYC Niagara. As noted above, the NYC pedestal bed tenders (and the 2 truck tenders for the later Mohawks) have considerably more rear overhang (to fit on existing turntables) and disproportianatly large coal space (since they could add water on the fly) than most
