I don’t mean for this to sound overly negative, but the image suggests to me that I hope you are handy. I suppose the $18 isn’t a bad price if you can mate the shell to a frame and drivetrain, and if it paints up purty. [:)]
Well, Bowser makes a replacement chasis for the Bachman Niagara and if Bachman parts dept has a tender lying about…
[:)]
how is that bowser drive for $125
Hi bud;
I have two Niaragas both are bachman which the axles suck, so I put a Bowser drive in one of them and it runs great. Problem in that you have to cut off and use the front weigh of the Bachman drive, which you can most likely make easily with a 1/2 inch piece of pipe filled with lead. the Bowser kit has just about everything you need including the motor, chassis, wheels and rods. You will have to buy the front, rear trucks , steam piston and chambers from some other supplier. So go ahead and buy it, Oh by the way the other engine I have, The bachman axles brake and so I found that kids hollow Ice pop handle straws work better and are a lot cheaper , but the bachman running gear really isn’t very good. So I will eventualy will buy another Bowser Kit for it.
Looks like you got a nice brass model there. The engine under my name I scratch built.
Good Luck
MIke
Let’s see now, $18.00 for the shell, and $2,355.75 for the rest of the parts (if they are available) who was the bozo that actually took this magnificent locomotive apart??? by the way, this has become my second favourite locomotive, it is a beauty, is it not???
well the locomotive hits the floor, and people just junk them
nice for me as you can see buy the price
guess I see more in the old loco
I think if I add $$$$$ then all the parts will be new!
and I get to run a new drive on my layout
and I get to custom build it with parts and do it MY WAY
I have had locomotives’s in disrepair before, and they turned out awsome
K
You’re gonna be nice and do a periodic show-and-tell I hope? Say yes.
[:P]
thanks mike
you don’t happen to have a photo of that drive, do you.
I got $2,355.75 to get this thing running
I know I will not see a PFM 4-8-4 drive for $18 [:)][:D][:)]

Ken,
I have built 2 of the Bowser drives, one for the Bachmann J and the other for the Bachmann GS4. Both of the Bowser drives were very well made. I thought they were easy to build. You’re going to have to adapt it to your brass body but it shouldn’t be too hard.
Read the instructions to see what you need from a Bachmann loco to complete it. The kit reuses the Bachmann valve gear, lead and trailing trucks and tender.

thanks soo
I’m looking at that now, I did not see a price. is that the correct price $125
looks very simple
K
According to Bowser’s price list on their website, the kit is $75. You should be able to find an old Bachmann Niagara on eBay for less than $50 to get the necessary parts (and maybe the tender) from.
Should be 75 dollars. Here is the price list, scroll down to the English Model section.

Jim
well I decided not to go with the bowser driveline dont think the quality was there
but as luck would have it I just scooped a NYC with the drive for just over $80
and we will see what shell looks the best
Mark me down for $2269.75 in savings
