The National New York Central Museum at Elkhart, Indiana has a former NYC wrecker and at least one car to go along with it. That one car looks like it was a passenger car with most of the car body above the frame removed to look like a flat car but with an enclosed end. It also has truss rods under it. I I believe this would be the car attached to the wrecker.

I recall seeing photos of NYC wrecking trains in the past Central Headlight magazines put out by the NYCSHS and NYC books. Support cars were usually second hand wood or heavyweight passenger cars depending on the era.
