"O" gauge, 0-4-0 steamer

My dad has a set from his childhood, engine has died. Original cast iron model. Would like to find 0-4-0- steam engine to replace it. Anybody know a good place to start looking for one? Local shops don’t seem interested in talking “O” gauge. His train uses the old metal hook and loop couplers.
Any help would be appreciated.

Can you tell us the brand and the cab number?

Did it look anything like this???

fix it or get it fixed. Nothing can go wrong with those old trains that can’t be fixed. There’s a lifetime of memories in that engine.

You said it right Frank.

I definetly agree with Frank. Unless the engine has been completely smashed into millions of pieces, returning it to running condition shouldn’t be a problem.

A cast iron body and hook and loop couplers would rule out Lionel. Three likely candidates would be Ives, American Flyer, and Bing. If it isn’t electric then it could be Hafner too. As was mentioned above, you will have to give us more details before anyone can offer any real suggestions in the way of helping you get your train up and running.
