If one were to build an O gauge (1:48) two rail layout in the yard, are there any companys making large scale narrow gauge trains that run on the same track. My plan would be to run both scales of trains on the same track. I would use DCC as i have a Digitrax command station and an 8 amp booster that i am not using on my N scale layout. I spent a couple of hours looking in all of the forums and have not come across any information on this. Thanks Mike
there’s a pretty active group here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NA_16mm_SM/
Their trains run on 32 mm (O) track in 16mm scale
MTH and Lionel make 2 rail scale trains (not toy) that use DCS, DCC or TMCC (alphabet soup) and 1:48 scale on 32mm track
There are also 6,500 plus members of the 16mm Narrow Gauge Modellers Association.
I model in 16mm so have a look around the home page and do please ask questions!!!
There are lots of suppliers for 16mm stuff but it is almost the “de Facto” scratch builders scale. Most 16mm modellers build their own stuff and equip it how they feel like it or, (most likely), what they have in the parts box, or nearest to hand -at that time…
Welcome to the fun scale!!!

you could have a combination of R/C and track power. Just a thought
Thanks for the reply guy’s. There is a lot of information to take in. The guys in the UK seem to run a lot of live steam. Do you also use track power. Are there any clubs in Canada that are afiliated with the NGMA. Mike
No, it is just that 16mm scale is the smallest practical scale for running live steam -thus it gets more than its fair share of advertising! Most 16mm people are battery electric -the problems with rain make twin rail feed outside in the UK a little “optimistic”. But if you are prpared to give the rails a quick “once over” then it is not a problem.
I have two steam locos, two clockwork locos and 16 battery electric locos…
