O Gauge Track Selection

new to hobby. Building 5’ x 10’ layout with room for 42" or even larger radius curves at perimeter, down to 36" or 31" curves inside the layout. Using MTH Railking equipment. Would appreciate recommendations for track selection with emphasis on quality and realistic look. Will be a permanent/semi-permanent layout.

There are many great types available these days…Gargraves makes excellent track in various curve styles as well as 3’ bendable straight sections…Also, there track features a black “phantom” rail that hides the center 3rd rail feature to some extent. The track is extremely well made and realistic looking. Keep in mind, this track may require ballast and cutting with a hobby saw. If You dont want to cut and ballast Your track You can use many of the nice sectional pieces available from Lionel etc…Keep in mind the “special work” too. (switch tracks, crossings etc…) I would advise getting on line and looking at some of the sights for the various styles, prices and so on. Maybe visit a few hobby dealers as well.

Good luck and have fun!----Welcome to the greatest hobby in the world with the friendliest members…(but say bye bye to your money…lol)

thanks for the useful feedback. Several people have recommended Atlas track and/or roadbed. Any reaction?

I haven’t had any experience with it but I think the atlas line is the 2 rail “O” system…again, check the web site…Good luck! ( I have always been happy with the atlas H-O line of track)
