I have seen many different O guage E33 elcetircs but never an E44. Do any exist or will any be manufactured?
Mike: I think the closest thing is the Lionel Virginian, that could maybe be repainted. Are you talking about the PRR, E-44 ?
Thanks, John
Good news is THIRD RAIL BRASS has produced a PRR E-44. The bad news $845.00. Check the Just Trains add in CTT.[bow]
YIKES - That’d be almost my whole train budget for the year…
Mitch
I have a friend that has an operating manual for a real PRR E44.
MikeE, I bent each manufacturers ear about E44’s (especially Williams) last fall at YORK. None showed interest, nor were any planned in the forseeable future. At the time Third Rail was only taking reservations on their E44, probably to see what kind of response they would get prior to going to manufacture. That $845 is way out of my league, especially for something that looks like a brick on wheels. But they are my favorite electric motor too, so I’ll just have to wait for a more modest offering in the future.
Thanks to all for the responses. In answering John’s question, I am referring the the PRR E-44. I do have two Lionel Virginian E33’s and an MTH Conrail E33. I like the E33’s but never saw a real one run. I have seen real Conrail E44’s run. The price of the brass one is steep. I have had my eye on an MTH modified P5. They are over $500.00.
I think the “House of Duddy” has made an E-44, but it is around $900 dollars.
I thought I heard that the Third Rail brass version didn’t have enough interest and therefore wasn’t going to be made.
I like electrics, so I also like the modified P5a streamlined- some people on forums that had the first edition of the MTH model didn’t like the way it ran due to the way the motors were installed. I would wait to buy until this upcoming 2nd release is reviewed.
Otherwise GG-1s, Little Joes, MTH E-33s and Lionel S-1, S-2 are good electrics.
