O Guage Outdoors

You can use Atlas track or MTH Real track. AC won’t short any more than DC at the same voltage. Make sure your transformer is indoors and run only low voltage wires outside. The 115VAC is very dangerous when wet and your transformer will be reiuned forever.
There is another way, Try K-line Kids"O" a plastic battery operated O guage.

No reason you shoudn’t be able to do 3 rail O outdoors. I remember when I was little we had a portable 3 rail outdoor set up. You also might consider battery power with remote control. You could mount everything in the train eliminating any need for track power.

Well I’m back! Sorry Iv’e been gone so long guys, the darned computer crashed, and it took me a while to repair it.
To answer your question, yes you can do O guage outside, I do!
Use the Atlas track. Its nickel-silver, and the ties are UV proof. The MTH tends to warp, and get brittle with exposure.
My layout started as a grand “experiment” but it has worked out real good!
it has survived its first stage for almost a year. Desert heat, and six feet of snow this winter, with very little damage. Now, this spring we start on the landscaping, towns, and industry.
I get twice the train in the same space as G.
The track just sits in the roadbed just like the larger guage.
