O Guage Track

Hi folks, I just bought a bunch of used track to expand my around the Christmas tree layout. Running my Flying Yankee around the tree has been a tradition since my first Christmas–and the trains first Christmas too. But anyway, the track was described as Lionel O guage. Mixed in the batch were some sections that I have never seen before. They seem to match up with regular Lionel track but they have tapered cross ties and are superelevated. Even the straight sections are superelevated. Does any one know what these came from? Thanks—Wayne

Thats got to be some really old track. I know track made for wind-up trains long ago had tapered ties. These were of the two rail variety. Top heavy cast iron wind-ups were very top heavy and the tapered ties helped them stay on the track around the curves. Yours could be from an old set that had an electric cast iron loco, therefore the third rail. Does it have any makers mark or nameon the ties, perhaps Ives or Am. Flyer?

There were pictures of this type of track a few years ago in CTT. I think they found out the stuff may have come from Japan?

Hj again, This track was in a collecrion of track that was on EBay. The seller claimed it was prewar O guage from his dad’s layout. There was some regular O guage track and this stuff. When you said tapered that reminded me that the ties are tapered _ that is to say they are narrower on one side in addition to being superelevated and the rails rise in steps on the ties. There are no markings. The outside rail is Lionel height and a circle of this track is 27 inches in diameter. It is sturdy and three rail. Does this ring any bells? — Wayne

I Ran into the same but 027 with grey ties.

I’ve got a few prewar engines that run really fast. The track is banked so that those rocket prewar engines stayed on track. Ives had track like that, maybe Bing and some of the others. We need Sask to chime in, he’s all knowing when it comes to these oddball items.

Almost looks like Prewar Ives Track that Jerry posted. Ives made O gauge Track that had a 27" Radius.

Hi folks, I was just browsing EBAY and found a seller offering this kind of track! Real good pictures! He claims this is American Flyer “O” guage track fom the 30’s. Question answered? Wayne
