(the following is but a meager suggestion)
I’m sure you all kave read about all the UP hating stuff on the variuos threads (don’t worry, I may be a UP fan but I dislike them for what they’re doing). I say we just drop it and move on. There are better trhings to worry about, like when the new Athearn Genesis Challenger will be out. [;)]
I love reading the threads about the UP enforcing its copyright. Convincing proof, if any were needed, not all the idiots and Chicken Littles concern themselves solely with running articulateds on 18" radius.

Yes, enough is enough! I find myself spending less time on this forum because all I read is negative thoughts and feelings. From MR changing their logo color to the UP issue and Athearn being sold there is very little to read on this forum except negitive remarks.
Well gentlemen,
I’m in agreement. I’ve only been on this FORUM a few months and I’ve learned so much in such a short time. Let’s continue to encourage our fellow hobbyists to keep this as a FIRST CLASS high quality forum.
These discussions do get tiring after a while, and I generally ignore them. What really troubles me the most about this is not endless droning, but the willingness for most to accept any piece of “information” someone might post as “fact”.
This makes me wonder how much reaction I would get if I posted something like: “UP strikes new deal with unions to keep all cab temperature settings at 40 degrees when outside temperatures dip below 10 degrees in order to save fuel (except on alternating Tuesdays with full moons).”
I envision seeing several “Those UP SOBs!” posts. [:p]
By the way, on a more serious note, I still have bond options available on the new Cape Cod Rail tunnel to be constructed if anyone is interested…
[:o)][;)][:o)][:D][:D]
Yeah I can stop publicly saying I hate UP, remember, why don’t we stop the garbage with the “what engines biggest” also.
Do you guys realize what a MORONIC opinion it is, to suggest to those of us interested in this topic “O.K. guys, time to move on”! WE WILL MOVE ON, WHEN WE ARE DARN GOOD AND READY TO MOVE ON!! You complain that we are wasting your precious “Band Width” and then go on to waste our precious “Band Width” with your compaints! IF THE SUBJECT IS OF NO INTEREST TO YOU, DON’T PARTAKE!
All you are really doing is engaging in self agrandizement!
Lets use this media for sharing information and discussing like interests!

Your anger is just scary.

Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’, Keep those UP’s rollin’, ExtortionistRide!
I’m surprised nobody recalls when CSX tried the same thing several years ago. Their logic was they didn’t want people taking their corporate logos and trademarks for use without their permission. there is some justification to protecting this information because not pursuing misuse results in the information becoming public domain and prevents the company from being able to regulate the use of its own information. If you say you can us it at no cost you are basically saying your company logos have no value which opens an entirely new can of worms. CSX eventually realized they were alienating the boggest group of supporters they had in the railfan community and backed down in modeling only to some degree. If enough people contact UP they will probably come to the same conclusion at some point.

CSX was not UP
CSX was not as insulated from reality as UP’s upper management seams to be of late.
CSX may have come to its senses, but UP is now such a big corporate entity I doubt if it will manage to pull it’s head out of its own [CENSORED] before it severly damages its own image.
I find it highly ironic (moronic) that in forcefully trying to protect its corporate image, its doing possibly irrepairable damage to said same corporate image in the eyes of their biggest supporters. It’s like a football team arresting spectators for steeping into the stadium or for wearing a team jersey. Legal issues aside, Its really stupid the way UP has handled this and shows a real lack of connection between the management and the public. Ever since UP took over the SP ( and a few others) people here and elsewhere have been complaining that UP management is now too big, too callous, and too disconnected from the rest of the world.
I think the heavy handed way this whole trademark issue has been handled is just an example of that disconnect being manifested. Only this time I feel the PR is goin
vsmith:
I find your example to be interesting.
“It’s like a football team arresting spectators for steeping into the stadium or for wearing a team jersey”
The thing is, you have to buy a ticket to step into the stadium and you pay a licensing fee on top of the cost of the jersey to wear their logo.
Warren
Agreed, I was just making an analogy. How about fans who show up with the team logo painted on there giant size 60 backsides, would they be subject to arrest for unlicensed use of the corporation logo?
Vsmith:
You are right, they wouldn’t be. But if they tried to sell the painting service to others, then they would be.
Warren
Somehow I feel if I showed up at a train show with UP’s logo painted on my chest ( or a custom handpainted locomotive, say a Challenger painted modern UP yellow scheme) Uncle Pete’s lawyers would try to have me busted for unlicenced use of its logo.
I really feel that they are truly out of touch with those who so far have been thier fans.
Namely us, model rr’s and railfans.
Thats what this whole UP logo issue has been for me. It could have been done alot smoother but UPs laywers have been very heavyhanded about it. and in the long run its going to hurt them more than they know.
Vsmith:
I agree completely that they have not handled it well. It could have been sprung on the modeling community in a much better way, but it wasn’t.
I model mostly the UP so this will effect me more than many of the people posting on it. I like seeing discussions that actual talk about the issues and try to find a way to make it better.
Mostly what I see posted is little more than “UP SUCKS.”
Warren
Yeah the UP thing is getting a little old. I’m not a UP fan, but that is not a function of thier latest actions, I just am not a big UP fan. I don 't model UP or really any of their components…that’s not to say I don’t have some rolling stock of the various flavors, but it’s just not my thing. I think some of the UP stuff is neat and would like to have an FEF3, but really only as a collector piece, just like I’d like to have a GG1 but I’m not a big PRR fan.
What I’m not going to do though is complain about what folks post about. The forum is there to post opinions, rumor or whatever…take it or leave it. I’m not going to call folks idiots, or moronic or bash posters for posting…that’s one of my pet peeves. Continue bashing UP, debating which is the better loco, etc…if that’s what floats your boat. Just keep it to these threads and don’t let it spread into other more useful threads.
Just my opinion
Hey guys,
That’s quite a thread and everyone keeps on moving ( their fingers). hehehehehe
26" radius, thank you very much.[;)]
