O.S.?

Sorry, I’m still lost?

Telegraph,dispatching,etc.

Murphy,
OS means the train has passed a control point, or station.
The dispatcher will note the train by on his or her dispatching log sheet, so the train is considered "OS, on the sheet, at well, Murphy Siding…

On a lot of railroads, its know as On Station, meaning the train has passed a station…(most station on a freight railroad are really control points, no actual station is there) this lets the other dispatchers know a train has passed a paticular location.

Its just a way for a dispatcher to keep track and note a paticulat train passing a paticular point on the railroad.

I read and post on several forums of differing interests. A lot of things are common to all boards I guess. What I don’t understand is, why would anybody need, want, or have the time to post under several names? What’s the point? We can be as anonymous as we wish. Are the multiple names to help converse ( or argue ) with other people? I’ve seen times where people have had running arguements with their alter egos (themselves). Why would you need to use the computer to do that? Can anybody ( or anybodies,if you have multiple personalities) explain that one to me?

Murph,

In this particular case, a need for anonymity came up with a new job assignment. Apparently once this person got to the job, the need was no longer there, and this person went back to using his/her regular name.

There was a thread a while back about multiple IDs–this is definitely one of the better reasons for an identity change, but only one ID is being used at a time. This person is assuredly a welcome Forum member!

Okay, I figured out O.S. It makes some things clearer.
