Wondering if anyone knows of an O scale or larger model of the newer 70+ foot refrigerator cars? Need for modelling a proposed interior for prototype use. Thanks
You’ll probably get a much faster answer in the Classic Trains forum.
Weaver sells a 57’ mechanical reefer. That is the biggest that I know of in Oscale, although I must admit I only operate ice-bunker reefers. There may be some 3-rail stuff out there that I am unaware of also, as I am in 2-rail.
Thanks! Since we are going to primarily use just the interior this may well work.
In O Scale those cars would require an O54 minimum radius.
They are so new with a few major paint schemes that the only models that might be available are going to be high-priced and rare.
Which company would take the risk and produce them? Atlas O or Mike’s Train House?
LIONEL just announced new models of the late 1960’s to late 1980’s built Pacific Car & Foundry 57’ Mechanical Refrigerators. The people at LIONEL not likely going to make another refrigerator car model for a few years.

ATLAS O is coming out with a new catalog in the next 2 weeks.
The 2007 Atlas O Catalog might be on-line at www.atlaso.com in the next 2 weeks.
They have offered the Modern Thrall Car Auto Carrier, so the new Mechanical Refrigerator Cars are possible.
Mike’s Train House will also have a new catalog. They will make 1 new O Scale freight car. It a guess as to what it might be. Could be the new refrigerator car, but the odds are slim.
Andrew
It appears that the New Mechanical Refrigerators are not yet available in O Scale.
Keep checking and constantly e-mail the major manufacturers about it.
Who do you think would be the best company to produce the latest O Scale Refrigerator Cars?
LIONEL and MTH should make more modern freight cars considering they are making O Scale and O Gauge Locomotives built recently like the SD70ACe and the ES44AC.
Andrew
Trinity Rail
That is the site to find information on the new Mechanical Refrigerator Cars.
Andrew
I think MTH would be the best option at this point though the relative rarity of these cars may throw it into the brass category.
The closest cars that MTH produces so far are the 60’ Express Reefers. They look like an S Scale version of the TRINcool 72’ Mechanical Refrigerators.

Thanks I looked at these but need the interior size. Keeping an eye on the brass to see if anyone is doing a larger reefer or even a larger plain box since the exterior is not as important to our needs.
