Since rail enthusiasts have a good sense of the lie of the land, they should be good at geography. This test appeared in today’s Wall Street Journal. Since part of the score is dependent on time to click, the test can get pretty hectic. The map is pretty tiny, being off by only a few pixels hurts the score, and I realize that I should have run it in 800X600 res.
Hint: use the pause a lot.
332,967, Level 9. Managed to hit a few within 100 kilometers, but really blew it on some of the cities in the last level. Been a long time since I took Geography, though. Some of those countries didn’t exist then…
As mentioned, the resolution leaves a bit to be desired. A few more geographical landmarks (like the great lakes) would have helped me once or twice.
IQ of 104 or something like that. I did come within 10km of the Battle of Stalingrad, and that was my closest. My farthest was the Seychelles, 3800km off…
371,995 level 10 IQ 112. I did get 6 at under 100 km off, and a dozen or so under 200. It’s pretty hard to pick out Estonia on a map this small, even if you do know where it should be. Africa, and the desrt countries of the former Soviet Union were my downfall.
Average at best, took test four times with travel IQ’s between 95 and 108, but never could crack the barrier for “difficult” questions. Almost always I was about 500 or 600 points away from the 30,000 required.
I have no idea how the test is scored, and how the points are weighted. It is definitely true that the map of the world is too small to make for accurate click-points. On a few occasions-- almost always in the USA – I was less than 100 km for location, which I consider good enough.
But certainly being a whole continent away is pretty damaging. [;)]
Did you go into “Display Properties” and set screen resolution on the “Settings” tab to 800x600 before your attempt? That way the map will occupy most of the screen.
