Would it be possible for those of us who have subscriptions to GR and are logged in to the forum to dispense with the green bar advertising on the bottom of the page? I don’t mind killing it once, but having to kill it every time I change fora or thread is getting out of hand. I am ready to leave another forum for the same reason. I paid my dues, dispense with the advertising.

On the extreme right end of the “green bar” you will see a small “x”, click it.
I never even noticed it till you brought it up. Thats the advertising that annoys you ,really?

Agree with you Bob. I subscribe to both Trains and Garden Railways and am tiring of the incessant
pop ups pushed in my face.

DMU, I wouldn’t have said a word if it appeared on the first entry and then vanished. But instead, every change of thread or topic or subject I have to manually tell it to ‘go away’. For me, this is the kind of obnoxious advertising that drives me off a web site. I am a paying subscriber to Garden Railways and should not be bombarded with the continuing subscription advertising. If the advertising was for another magazine or product it would still be annoying, but pay per click is here to stay. That being said, it will really pi$$ me off if GR starts that in lieu of some form of removal for paid subscribers.

Being a subscriber to a total of three Kalmbach publications they all have the same hard sell continual pop ups which are annoying when you already subscribe. I already dropped CTT because of the “subscriber only” sort of hard sell and you still get these brainless pop ups. The other reason was the repetitious nature of it’s content. The Kalmbach forums seem to have a modicum of traffic these days and this might be one reason out of several, why this is so. I think this magazine ranks only second to Classic Trains as far as good editorial content, so much so, I wish the online site was updated more often, despite the annoying and aggressive pop -ups.
The same pop-up stuff invades all of the forums on here. Trains, Model Railroader, etc., all of them. It’s annoying. I’m mainly in Model Railroader, we complain about over there, too.

I cant believe that little green bar throws people into such a tizzy. I think they should make it bright orange and flashing just so we have something else to complain about.
Even after you click on the X, there is a symbol that you can click to bring the stupid bar back onto your computer screen. Oh joy !
Plus the oversized magazine that appears on the bar effectively blocking your typing when posting to threads.
What a great bad will gesture.

Pain? It neither gives me pain nor joy I cant believe a bar 1/2" tall is such an obstacle yet no one minds the 3" advertisement bar on the side .
The sidebar is passive. The pop ups, if they were better targeted at newcomers or non subscribers, that would be reasonable. But to pay for a subscription and then be asked continually to subscribe is frankly idiotic. I just received my third email asking me to subscribe to Model Railroader and when I went to unsubscribe, the site listed my current subscriptions to delete , not Model Railroader ! It’s simply irksome and pestering.
If the site has value or the magazine, folks will subscribe and don’t require hectoring. It gives me the impression of desperation. Occasionally I still go to the CTT forum and get the same “block” of a pop-up and the answer to these is simple, if I liked the editorial purview more I would then resubscribe. Pop ups will not sway me. In fact, I think it’s crass.
Well I can see you fellas are willing to fight congress over this little green bar and good luck with that for myself I hope my life never becomes so mundane or narrow that such issues bother me.
If you want to fight for something how about getting the mag to lower its prices now id be behind you on that. well good luck in your holy quest of the little green bar.
I don’t think that anyone is on a quest to get Kalmbach to remove the annoying green bar.
But it may be worth expressing our chagrin in the hope that Kalmbach will react and eventually remove it.

I don’t see the pop ups as the be all and end arbiter of my subscribing to the content of this wonderful magazine, and I am not rallying anyone to picket Kalmbach, but…as noted, this is a fairly significant cost as other discretionary items considering you only get four issues. It’s worth it but I simply don’t care for pop ups being pushed in my face. If I could perform an exorcism of them I would, and I don’t have any misplaced hope that they will go away, and so it goes…
I agree, I am a subscriber also. When I log in I don’t want to have to wade thru pop ups or ads to go about my reading of the site. It is very annoying…Travis
I do not know if this will help anyone but this is my experience. When I log into the site from the “front page” (i.e. trains dot com slash gw) I get the advertisement and the green bar. The subscription ad disappears but the green bar returns. When I log straight into the forums I only get the green bar. Once I collapse it it stays collapsed as long as I stay in the forums. I can flip through all posts on each of the catagories and no green bar. Maybe this might help, just my two cents.
