Just found out I’ve got to go work in this town for 2 months building a medical clinic. From Google Earth, it looks to be in the middle of mountains and old coal strip mines. Only found one mainline to railfan on so far…
Any locals have any info on fun train stuff to see or hobby shops to visit in that neck of the woods??
Looks to be a lot of down time in the hotel at night. Might give me a chance to catch up on some kit building.[tup]
PS-Got a $3/hour raise + milage and expences for aggreeing to do this!!!
MY BOSS ROCKS!!![:D]
Loathar,
Not exactly close by but the Cass Scenic Railroad is only 3 hours away. Would definitely be worth a drive - i.e. if you can get away for a day. Don’t know if they are running that early though.

P.S. I just checked the site, Loathar. They don’t start excursions till around Memorial Day. [:(] Bummer!
You will be in coal country down there …NS and CSX should have lines in the area
Beckley and Charleston WV are in driving distance (main towns) …
There is a great hobby store two hours away in Putman county between Charleston and Huntington WV…(WV Hobbies)
Good luck you will be a mountain man when you leave …
I will second the comment about the hobby shop in Putman County. I live in Kansas City, but my wife’s sister and family are in Scott Depot, so we drive to W Va every so often and I always hit that hobby shop.
