Just received this email a few minutes ago - was hoping to go but understand the circumstances:
GREAT SCALE MODEL TRAIN SHOW OCTOBER TIMONIUM SHOW CANCELED
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
This message is being sent to all names on our email list of attendees. If you are also an exhibitor at our train shows, this may be the second time you receive this notice.
We are canceling the October 3 & 4 show owing to circumstances which force us to do so. Among the primary drivers of this decision are the following:
· Although Maryland has effectively controlled spread of COVID, many of our attendees and exhibitors reside in areas where the scourge has been less effectively controlled, or otherwise been subject to new outbreaks in recent days. As a “magnet,” our show would concentrate too many potentially exposed people in one place at one time.
This was a wise decision. I applaud Scott Geare for this action as it was the correct thing to do. When Ken and myself owned the show, we would have done the same, but only after careful study and research as I’m sure Scott must have done. We would have considered one way aisles with 12’ witdths, no food service, and masks for all in addition to distancing…but still saftey for all wins out in the end. I greatly look forward to the February show as I’ll be there.
While the cancellation is a disappointment for many, I’d say it to be a wise decision, given current circmstances.
I expect that our usual November train shows and layout tours here in southern Ontario will also be cancelled, too, but again, I do believe that it’s the best course to take.
You don’t worry until you see a pile of cars up ahead and need a mile to stop but you don’t got a mile, you got a lot less. I’ve watched a few of those video’s on Youtube with people flying into a pile of stopped cars on icey roads. It’s a demolition derby.
The suites I had didn’t fit me anymore and I needed one for my fathers funeral in Iowa. My wife found a guy in Roanoke VA who opened up his shop, fitted me, hemed the pants and sent me on my way.
Makes sense. Those who wear suites often have correspondingly higher salaries. and may be able to retire early and be very comfortable. My first wife wrecked me financially in the divorce so I’ll be working until I’m old and then be poor.
While I made pretty decent money when I started as a steelworker (it got much better as the years went on), one of my first purchases was a custom-made suit, and I’d have to say, there wasn’t a better dressed steelworker in town, a town of multiple steel mills and steel processors, and that included the management, too.
Let’s just say that it attracted a lot of very, very, nice attention. [:-^][swg]
Wayne: we have not YET cancelled our Whitby show. Our exective is working with the school administration and health authorities as to if and how we can do it. In november.
If it happens everyone will be required to wear a mask covering nose, mouth and chin at all times.
Our president is a retired Paramedic so we are being well advised.
One of these days I will get to Springfield. If only there was an easy way to get from the train station to the show venue - though these days with Uber and Lyft it might be more doable. The problem is the Springfield show is always on my older son’s birthday.
I’m wondering if the Amherst show (West Springfield) is going to happen in January. That may be “too early” yet – by then a vaccine ought to be just introduced, but not yet widespread.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see cancellations continuing right into late summer 2021. If not longer…
I’m a vendor at Amherst and I get monthly updates from them. As of last week, the show is still going on. I know how crowded it can get, and we may go with a skeleton crew, and I will know more as we get close. The HUB division cancelled their December show in Marlborough, MA, which takes place that first weekend.
Never wore a suit (unless you count when I was under 5). Never owned any dress shoes or suit as an adult, no ties till recently but I got a zip up type from relative and liked it so much I bought a bunch to wear with dress shirts and blue jeans (or black jeans for special occasions).
