Odd Light Behavior

I have two locomotives, a DCC P2K GP-9 and a Kato SD-40 that I recently converted the SD-40 to DCC (plug in type board). The Kato runs fine and the forward and reverse lights come on properly for the direction of travel. I noticed that when I enter the Katos number into my Digitrax Zephyr the P2K sits there quietly and no lights come on, as it should. But when I enter the P2Ks number the rear light on the the Kato SD40 comes on. It doesn’t respond to any commands sent to the P2K GP-9 , of course… but the light comes on.
Is this normal? I don’t see how I could have plugged anything wrong in the conversion, the board only goes in one way.

Jarrell, Try doing a Reset on the Kato to set it back to factory settings. The owners manual for your zepher or the literature for the decoder should tell you which cv it is and how to do it (don’t have my manual in from of me). See if the problem still exists when the loco has been set back to factory specs. If the problem goes away, then reprogram the decoder to the number you have it at. If the problem is still there, contact Digitrax or whatever decoder manufacturer made the decoder for assistance. Good luck!

Sounds like you accidently set up a consist there, possibly a decoder-assisted consist with CV19. Possibly in the Zephyr itself. Or the one decoder wasn’t ‘clean’ when you installed it. I generally do a reset if the decoder supports it prior to any programming, just in case. First thing I would do is the reset. This should reset the address to 03. Try running it on address 03 before going further, verify that it runs properly. If so, then try programming the correct address and see what happens.

Ok, thanks fellas… I’ll do the reset and see what happens.
Jarrell

My digitrax book says to check the decoder book to see how to do a reset and I can’t find that. The decoder is a digitrax brand. Just how do you do a reset, or should I give Digitrax a call?
Jarrell

Digitrax Decoder? One of the newer ones? Then just wrote the value 08 to CV8 for the reset.
You should have got copy of the Digitrax Decoder manual with your system. But go tot he Digitrax site and make sure you have the latest version. I have a 3-ring binder that I have all the latest manuals for the stuff I use in. Guess I really should refurbi***he double-sided laser printer I have and save some paper.
