Odd occurance in Flatonia

Went railfanning in Flatonia last night. My railfanning buddy said the police wanted to talk to him the other day. He went to talk to them and they asked him if anyone took pictures of trains at night. He said they sometimes do. Then they asked him if anyone just took pictures of the tracks with no trains on them. He said he’d never heard of anything like that. Evidently the police were down by the photo pavilion about 2 a.m. and there was a guy there taking pictures of the track, but not trains. They ID’d him and he was from Switzerland. It sounds kinda weird and fishy to me. What do you folks think?

I’ve tried taking pictures of lit signals at night with the track in the foreground for reflection. Not too great results, but may try it again. I would think you need some serious time exposure to do justice to any rail photography at night.

…Sure why not…Night shots can produce great results. But as stated above it’s not easy.

I have never done a 2am night shoot - but I have done several of empty track at sunset. The shining rails give a lot of interest and focus the eye on the sunset. Try it some time.

Now - I suspect that a full moon could do something similar. might be worth a try.
