Odd place for those

Today I saw a BNSF 9-44CW, an ADMX vegetable oil tankcar, and a MP 60’ boxcar on a lumber yard siding, off of UP tracks. Unfortunately, I did not have time to stop and write down the numbers. I wonder what is going on.

Set-out due to some equipment problems?

Sounds like the detector caught something and the crew opted to set out these cars and such When it happens if the crew cant repair it then you set it out at the first place availible Larry

I believe that Larry is correct…These occurances are rare but when they do happen train crews must scramble to set out the cars where they can. In any case it’s strange to see a wide cab Dash-9 setting out cars anywhere as they’re primarily used for point-to-point heavy thru freight service only.

I’ll bet if you go by there again soon you’ll see mechanics working on the cars or perhaps the cars will be gone by then, especially if they’re carrying “hot” loads. On the other hand, if they’re empties it could be a while longer before they’re moved. Please keep us posted.
