I have a Lionel Souther Pacific, Atlantic steam engine with Oddyssey. The problem I’m having with the speed control is at certain points on the track it will speed up then go back to original speed. Is it because of dirty track or is there something else I should be aware of?

LAZ - it is not great news. Early Odyssey units unfortunately jump whenever there is a short loss of contact with the center rail due to breaks or dirty spots. The cruise control circuitry is a bit sensitive to voltage loss and thus it thinks it has slowed down at dirty spots or breaks and ramps up the power to the motor such that when power is restored after the break or dirty spot, it zooms for a moment until the circuit detects the speedup and then corrects it back to normal.
So clean your track, rollers, and wheels. Also check the spacing on the PU rollers to see that they bridge the breaks at switches.

Roy
Thanks ROY!!!
I appreciate the info.
