Folks, the JIT mentality is not exclusive to power plants. I work for a local trucking company and you would be surprised at how many of our customers use the same operating philosophy. Let one of our trucks have a mechanical issue that delays a load and you ought to hear the phone ring. Companies barely have a 2-3 day margin for supplies … I would say that it is poor planning on the part of the power plants (and others who operate on the JIT mode) not to plan for situations such as this.

Enron was one, for sure. But so too was Alliant Energy, I believe.

there was no shortage, the power companies were really middlemen “brokers” of power buying power from here or there. The brokers produced the shortages out of their own business stupidity. Throw them brokers out!

now, power shortages from inadequate coal supplies?
fixing track?

derailments?

take care of yer *** track in the first place and dont ignore it.

Just how bad are power plants low on Coal?
Allan.

Well, I believe the part about possible brownouts, especially in a superhot summer like the Midwest is having. Nothing sucks energy like A/C.
