Is there now or has there ever been any type of HO scale vehicle that can be placed on the track and operate. like a small pickup kinda like a maintence truck. I see CSX trucks all the time that have the hydalic system that they can jump on the rails and drive down the track and now I want one. Any help out there???
Custom Finishing makes Hy-Rail wheels for light duty vehicles #7009. You have to add the truck (Atlas, trident etc.) Also #7073 is for medium/heavy duty trucks. Check their complete line as they make a few vehicles for rail use.
Never seen a HO scale version just the one in my neighbours driveway on a regular basis. Saying that, it can be done. Take one of theose Gandy Dancers by Bachmann and chop it and fling a truck body on top of it. Kinda like Mini Monster Garage. Mmmm A Studabaker on rails…[:D]. This has potential
Kibri have a Unimog modified for road/rail use - it’s available with assorted body styles but is a static model, though I’ve seen photos of a motorising kit to suit it. The motor kit seems tricky to get hold of - I’ve never seen one advertised or in a store and the author of the article mentioned spending ages sourcing it. I have seen the Kibri excavators modified into a road/rail version using a Tenshodo SPUD - basically the SPUD is refitted with rubber tyres, the new guide wheels are rigged to pick up power, and the lower half of the earthmover kit is fitted around the SPUD.
