I remember UP Chuck (mac user) who was experiencing missing features here after the recent format change, and as hard to believe at the time that he was having the problems that he was claiming, I now see exactly what he was experiencing.
The toolbar with the B I U etc controls was invisible to him.
Recently, I started using a browser plug in that lets me control the information reported back to the server, specifying the Operating system and browser type being used by the end user
And by gosh, I’ve found that if I “spoof” claiming to use MAC with Netscape, MAC with MSIE or some variants of Linux, I get the same malfunction Chuck was experiencing.
And I was just curious how many more of you might be experiencing similar?
Quite interesting - the Toolsyou mention do not appear when this reply page is loaded in Safari 2.0.4. [B)]
Loading the same page in Firefox 1.5.0.1 [PPC Mac] they are obviously displayed [:P] otherwise I could not have played with the styles in the line above, or added any [:o)] to this reply.
Firefox is built from Mozilla - the same browser engine used for Netscape.
Apparently Bergie should be flagged about this browser issue. There is a new cat - Mac OS 10.5 due sometime in early 2007 - its Safari version may play nicely with all these features. Know Mike Y. is using Mac when away from the office. Hasn’t been able to talk the Kalmbach IS folks into liberating him from the DARK SIDE[:D] in his office.
For all you Mac users that that use the Safri browser, there is a nice little tool out there that will let you on almost any web site and masquerade as a different browser. The place to get it is www.missingmanuals.com. The free program is called TinkerTool, which will enablr you to access Safari’s Debug menu. TinkerTool allows you to click in a checkbox that turns on the Debug menu. The Debug menu will appear next to the Help menu, and the submenu UserAgent will allow you to act as IE browser if you want. Useful for the websites that Safari has trouble with (banking websites). Thought this may be useful to our Mac users.
Does the fact that I’m trying to help by looking up the vendor and bothering to write a reply imply indifference?
Did you go to the vendor’s forums? They use their own forum software, the same as Trains uses. Therefore the users would know. You should ask if there are any known issues for non-Windows (Mac) users, or do you want me to do that for you also? Since I use Windows, I wouldn’t be able to describe the problem first hand.
Anti…How you dooin? I contacted Trainsmag and they told me they had issues when using Safari browser and which issues gave me the problems I wrote about. They are beta testing and say they will be able to resolve the problems (which are still there, by the way, Trainsmag). But I like Safari, so I’m waiting. I knew I hadn’t lost my marble. Thanks for confirming what I was seeing. Indeed…West of the Rockies…
When I use IE7 the tool bars for color and font etc. are missing from the screen display. When I use Firefox…such as I am using now…the are available for use.
Apparently [:O] everyone using Firefox (on various platforms) is able to access all [:D] the toys.
Unable to locate TinkerTool - the Safari add-on -at the site Squeeze cited [xx(] but, thru Version Tracker [8] found v 3.6.1 [with the Polish update!] [;)] at TinkerTool 3.6.1
Guess if I want to tweak Safari’s doopah, I’m all set! [8D]
Interesting - my original proper 4-letter Polish spelling of the red word above came up as 3 ***. It’s the only Polish word I’m positive I can spell correctly!
Hey Chuck, glad to hear you have not given up hope. And was going to suggest you try one of the “spoofer” agents if you had not tried already.
There is a dandy one called “Prefbar” for Mozilla/Firefox that offers that functionality, plus a lot more “tweaks” for people who like to fine tune their browsing experience
Dale: I have tweaked the original MacUpdate link to TinkerTool 3.6.1 and cloned it here. beaulieu’s directions work - I was not familiar with using that tool above.
Yeah, I don’t get the toold either… I would prefer Safari, but it seems to have some issues. And I’m not going to switch to the latest OS just for that… Think I might have to start using Firefox. Does anybody else get the problem with quoting when they use Safari? The problem is where you quote and all the tags and everything are displayed in the post. I’m not sure if it’s browser related or not, but seems like it must be. Dave http://www.dpdproductions.com - Featuring the TrainTenna Railroad Radio Antennas -
