Off Topic: Remember our Veterans Today

Let’s all remember our country’s veterans today! Not only
those who have died in service for our country, but those
who are still with us.

No matter how you feel about war, let us all put that aside
today, and honor these heros, who have fought for freedom,
whether it’s our freedom, or someone else’s freedom. They
deserve our RESPECT. And after today is over, let’s remember
and honor them every day.

Thanks for the reminder, CW. My flag is now out.

Thank you for reminding us to put our flags out, CW. The freedoms we have today were paid for by our men and women who have served in all four branches of the military and the U.S. Coast Guard. If you know someone who has served this country in one capacity or another, you might want to thank them for their service.

I would be putting my flag out this morning, but I need to remount my flag pole’s bracket to my porch railing. A few months ago we had a violent wind storm and the wind ripped my flag and it’s bracket our of the porch railing and tossed it into my neighbor’s yard.

Yes, our flag is flying right now. I would like to thank all of our veterans for what they have done to make this country great.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow, Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. -Lt/Col. John McCrae, 1915 Lest we forget.

Anthem for Doomed Youth

What passing-bells for these who die as cattle?
-Only the monstrous anger of the guns.
Only the stuttering rifles’ rapid rattle
Can patter out their hasty orisons.
No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells;
Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs,-
The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells;
And bugles calling for them from sad shires.

What candles may be held to speed them all?
Not in the hands of boys but in their eyes
Shall shine the holy glimmers of good-byes.
The pallor of girls’ brows shall be their pall;
Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds,
And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds.

Wilfred Owen, March 18, 1893 – November 4, 1918

One of my favorite poems written in honor of war heroes is The Charge of the Light Brigade by Lord Tennyson

THANKS FOR REMEMBERING! SOME OF US REALLY APPRECIATE IT!

“THESE COLORS NEVER RUN!!!”

Absolutely. Not only do we appreciate it, but it helps us to know that others remember those who served and are not here with us to enjoy the day…

Raise a glass to them…our fallen heros, our fallen friends, our comrades…

Yes, remember our Veterans…

The ones who served in peace, and in war… Those who gave us the Freedom, and those who maintain it for us. For over 200 years this country has lived, let’s give our veterans thanks, for without them, we would not have what we have.

As the son of a vet I have already thanked him and he enjoyed the shot of Cutty and the Sam Adams Winter Lager!

Thanks, CW. As a veteran I really get annoyed when furniture stores, car dealers, etc. use Veterans Day as an opportunity to have a sale. We need to stop to honor those who have fallen (many of my friends did) and those who are in uniform today.

Thanks again for remembering.

US Army, the Big Red One, Vietnam, 1969.

We always flew our American Flag on holidays.

Until the attacks on September 11, 2001. The flag went out late that morning, has flown ever since, and will stay there until the young men and women of our armed forces who are protecting our freedom are out of harm’s way. And let us hope that those who come home wearing the award pictured below are treated with the unmost respect and gratitude:

To our military, past and present: You are THE BEST. Thank you.

For their grandfather.

Never forget.

Thank You Ed I am a veteran and had to run a train today so not all vet’s get to have some time with others. I was in the same boot camp company as a yardmaster friend of mine, and he and I had a good chat today.

First and formost Thank you too all of the vets and present members of our armed force for protecting us and serving this country with all you’ve got or had. God Bless All.

Yes, my flag was out today but, it’s not want you think. I displayed my late grandpop’s flag that was draped over his coffin, on my gun rack, and IT IS STILL FOLDED IN THE PROPER TRIANGULAR FORMAT. > These colors don’t run.
