Put my name down on Rapido’s preorder list for one of the Royal Hudsons coming out next year. Sound, DCC, awesomeness, this thing looks to have it all. Not big on preorders, but a year to save up for it sounds good…
A question I’ve henceforth been too lazy to ask Rapido: does anyone know what brand of decoders Rapido uses in their ready-to-run DCC locos?
I’m glad you are eagerly anticipating your Royal Hudson.
I’m waiting for the U4a myself and I had better pack a big lunch for the long wait, scheduled to be released in 2022!
Rapido has been working closely with Matt Herman of ESU Loksound so I wouldn’t be surprised if the Royal Hudson has a Loksound Select in it with custom sounds recorded by Jason and his team. Seems odd that there is no official word on that, though. Sign up for the Rapido newsletter—there may be more details there.
Jason has been making every effort to have the most accurate sounds that can be achieved in his models.
Jason has tracked down an “unmodified” Alco 244 for their upcoming FA-2. Read about it here…
I like the U4a, but the Selkirk better fits what I’m up to. Both look like they might be $1000 plus, so a bit of save-up time is a definite plus. In the meantime I’ll find other ways to gleefully fling my money at Jason Shron. The CP 4-6-0 due in 2018 looks like a candidate.
Loksound I know by reputation only; people in this forum (who know their stuff far better than I) seem to love Loksound. Good enough for me, bring it on!
Kind of feel the price is are little over inflated if it plastic… if their CNR U4a is going be in the 1000 plus I might as well just go to the local hobbie store and pick up the Brass U4a there which has dcc installed, factory painted and sound… heckeven the brass 6060 bbullet nose betty at the store is not for 1000 dollar.
No arguments here, Mheetu! though I imagine it’ll be cheaper in the States. Just part of the fun of living on the cold side of the 49th; our rainbow monopoly money doesn’t go as far as it used to.
