A very Happy Canada Day to all our friends to the North!

Happy Canada day to ya’ll too ! What is Canada day ?

How can-a-day be Canada-day [?]

HAPPY CANADA DAY TO ALL FELLOW MODEL RAILROADERS IN CANADA!

[yeah]

It’s roughly - sorta - kinda like their “Fourth of July”. It’s essentially a celebration of the day when Canada became a country.

Originally what is now Canada was a set of separate colonies each controlled from Britain. The July 1, 1867 enactment of the British North America Act of 1867 created the Dominion of Canada, basically giving the colonies home rule so they could pass their own laws and and elect their own leaders under one flag.

IIRC not all the colonies were joined in the Dominion of Canada however, I think the last one didn’t join until 1949??

Canadians … Happy Canada Day! …[tup] [:D] [bow]

…and to the old Canadians, happy Dominion Day !!

…et pour les Quebecois, Jour heureux du Canada !!

Happy Canada Day to everyone!

An ode to our railway history:

There was a time in this fair land when the railroad did not run
When the wild majestic mountains stood alone against the sun
Long before the white man and long before the wheel
When the green dark forest was too silent to be real
But time has no beginnings and histry has no bounds
As to this verdant country they came from all around
They sailed upon her waterways and they walked the forests tall
And they built the mines the mills and the factories for the good of us all

And when the young mans fancy was turnin to the spring
The railroad men grew restless for to hear the hammers ring
Their minds were overflowing with the visions of their day
And many a fortune lost and won and many a debt to pay

For they looked in the future and what did they see
They saw an iron road runnin from sea to the sea
Bringin the goods to a young growin land
All up through the seaports and into their hands

Look away said they across this mighty land
From the eastern shore to the western strand
Bring in the workers and bring up the rails
We gotta lay down the tracks and tear up the trails
Open er heart let the life blood flow
Gotta get on our way cause were movin too slow

Bring in the workers and bring up the rails
Were gonna lay down the tracks and tear up the trails
Open er heart let the life blood flow
Gotta get on our way cause were movin too slow
Get on our way cause were movin too slow

Behind the blue rockies the sun is declinin
The stars, they come stealin at the close of the day
Across the wide prairie our loved ones lie sleeping
Beyond the dark oceans in a place far away

We are the navvies who work upon the railway
Swingin our hammers in the bright blazin sun
Livin on stew and drinkin bad whiskey
Bendin our old backs til the long days are done

We are the navvies who work upon the railway
Swingin our hammers in the bright

Hope everyone had a good one! I got to read some old (1997 or so) MR’s, that was the extent of my mr’ing today.

Ve haf vays of makink you say t’ings in dis matter----[swg]

BTW----the evenings fireworks display for our neighbourhood had a turnout of close to 125 people----not bad for the first one-----[swg]

While you fellow Canucks were sipping cool ones at the beach, I was on my roof ripping up 15 year old duroid shingles. I live on the ocean, and the winter storms do a real number on the shingles. It was time to put on something more durable. My hands may never be able to hold a soldering iron or find the slot in an HO engine screw again. [:(]

… didn´t know that Herr Flick has moved to Canada!

Good Morning Barry - or should I say Good Night?

… Crandell, don´t complain - you live in that part of the world, which, IMHO, is the prettiest and most livable spot on this planet. May have changed since I was there in 1974, though…[:)]

Let me add my best wishes to all Canadians.

Can anybody tell me where the name Canada originated from - is it of Indian tribal origin?

Bruce[:)]

Is this also the start of a new fiscal year? If so, how convenient. I suppose it is evidence Canada was born by fiat and not revolution like her southern neighbor.

How quickly a year has passed. Congratulations!

Mark

Bruce, read about the origin of the name Canada here:
