I went to my LHS today over in Halifax, As soon as I stepped in the door “Mike” one of the owners said "you don’t wan’t to come in here today. Iooked at his smile and asked “Do we have something new to sell today, do we?” Mike smiled and I went, I saw, he ran it, My name is now on the box.
The Heritage Series 2-8-4 in C&O colours. I have yet to see another engine run as quiet and smooth as that. Absolutely amazing and all for $269…Canadian!
two question:
What is the drawbar on this engine?
Is this quiet running something I expect for years to come or it this a temporary thing?
Ah yes! The old “You don’t want to come in here today” trick. So they do that in Canada too. Those LHS people are very tricky aren’t they. Fortunately for me the Southern didn’t have any 2-8-4’s and the L&N didn’t have any that are close to the P2K’s. But there are plenty of other temptartions lurking.
Have Fun,
Tom Watkins
You should feel fortunate, Ken, the owner of our LHS always says " You’d be perfect for this store[:)]… You should buy it[:D]"(the store, which happens to be for sale!), and I always reply " If I could afford it , I would, but I can’t , so… I can’t! ([:p]sure wish I could though[:p]!!!)…[banghead][censored]
I must confess I wrecked this years train buying budget also this week !
I ordered something that could easily be a $400,= lemon [xx(]
( if I should believe the rumours in the other topic) a lionel up veranda #61,
[8D] must be springtime, [8D]
[8D] or could it be that the sun starts shining out of my wallet ?[8D]
new topic: what is the best way to glue wings to a Lionel Veranda turbine ? should I use staples or CA, or wil soaking it in white glue do the trick ? will the weight be up to NMRA standards ? It’s made out of metal, can I use a blowtorch on it and weld the wings on?
does anyone counted the rivets used to mount a wing if I decide to rivet one on because that’s more prototypical?
WOW! this will certainly save me a lot of shipping costs as it proves to be a lemon, I can let it fly backhome on it’s own power!
BTW Fergmiester : On the Discovery-channel I once heard that a Bigboy had the same weight as a fully loaded Boing Boeing 747 , since you have one around having a identity crisis, pull out the styrene, put on wings, create a new hybrid, and maybe we can start a new Cross Atlantic Airline?
I heard the project was going to be called the “Trans-Atlantic Flight Rail System”. Research & Development by Lemon Airlines and funded by modelers UP.
From what I’ve heard they’ve already developed the floating rails needed for take-off and landing.
This maybe true however due to the less than ideal aerodynamics of a Big Boy, Take off was less than picturesque as the wings were torn free and clear of the body as it was unable to clear the track before fetching up on the tunnel portal before the now straightened and widened turn.
News at 6!
Was not a preety sight I saw before me
In spite of this and in light of "How to get a poor performing engine to work better, I may retrofit a set of JATO engine on the old girl next time and join the space program. Regardless this will be the end of my BB problems
I inevitably come away from my LHS with a pile of stuff I didn’t intend to buy and none of the items I planned to buy - anyone else have this problem? Last time I came home with a Minitrix N-scale S-Bahn set (loco, 2 cars, cab car). Not on my list, but it just looked so good…!
