OH NO! Say it ain't so!!!

I was at railpictures.net and came across this picture:

Tell me that’s not grass growing between the tracks on my beloved Pittsburgh main line!!! [:(]

This basically confirms what I feared… the Port Perry branch has become the dominant main line thanks in no small part to its ability to handle doublestacks. [:(]

OR NS is becoming sloppy.

Yeah, and not just a few blades of grass, either. Get the ROW crew some Roundup!

You must not be around railroad tracks much. lol That happens to any mailine track every year that transports any type of grain product. Just some that fell out of the cars and took root. Not a big deal, it’ll go away. You should see some of the yards I work on, soy beans, corn, grass, etc growing about a foot high.

Well I was thinking that, but I used to trespas…errr… walk on those tracks back in the 80s and I used to ride the busway next to those tracks just to see trains and never saw anything like that before.

I hope you’re right. [:)]

I think it’s really curious that all the grain trains obviously only use the one track.

Whats amazing is you would think that a train would come along and mow it down. On the KSC main line in Independence MO where it can be 2 ft tall there is an air dam effect from the engine and train that just bends it over. Shortly there after its standing tall again. [2c] As always ENJOY

Way back when the main looked like a shortline on its last legs, Amtrak sent the Broadway Limited and the National Limited through there at a “crazy” 25MPH! As the Pennsylvanian of 2006 accelerates out of town, it can get up to 65, but it doesn’t get a chance to since they have to back off to 40 for some curves that have always been 40 MPH except in the darkest days of [8]Penn Central, when it was 10 MPH there. Freights then, had to either accelerate up to 40 ASAP, or stay under 15 to keep the rocking motion of their cars under control! Needless to say nearly all moves through there thirty+ years ago were under 15MPH! It may not be the best looking, but it’s a lot better than it was. BUT- There aren’t any C628s,C630s,C636s, C425s,RSD12s,RS27s or F7s there now! Not to mention the U25Bs,U25Cs,U28Cs,U30Cs…
