Oil in PA followup

First of all, this is still a work in process.

The oil rigs are modelled after the Pennsylvania standard oil rig, and scale out to 3 feet tall

My goal for this phase is drilling rigs and pipeline to a loading platform.

I have only been able to find one fuzzy picture of an oil loading platform.

I plan on having 2 of the rigs ready for a public display in June.

The folks at the Penn-Brad and Drake musuems both were very helpful.

This is from the Penn-Brad museum. Mine will look a lot more like this when completed. (hopefully)

Please keep in mind that the NW PA oil boom actually started in SW NY state in and around Cuba/Bolivar/Richburg area. there is a small Oil musuem in Bolivar NY you could possibly contact for more information as well as several in the Bradford PA area too. Look around on Ebay as there are a bunch of related Postcards for sale regularly. There are also a bunch of related historical railroad books that cover some of this subject as well.

Wow, looks like I need to do some more research again.

I liked the picture with the oil cars.

I’ve been trying to figure out how the oil goes from the pipe on the upper left to the car on the right. Was is a flexible hose, possibly some type of rubber? I assume there would be a type of shut off valve as well to control the flow on a car by car basis. hmmm any thoughts?

Gees, It’s been so long since I was back in Bradford. I didn’t realize i missed it so much. (Ha ha!)Must get back there this summer. To bad the Kinzua bridge went down in 2003.
