Oil refinery

What tank cars do i need for model of a ol refinery?

i ment oil and in HO scale

Are you bringing oil in or product out? Era?

If you are bringing oil and additives in it would be non-pressurized tank cars.

If you are bringing cars out it could be both non-pressurized (gasoline, fuel oil, etc) and pressurized (LPG, ethylene oxide, butane, propane, hexane, etc).

modern era, would i need sulfuric acid cars?

No, but if it is “sour” crude that is being processed, molten sulphur may be shipped out as a by-product.

(“Sour” crude is crude oil with a high sulphur content. Low-sulphur crude oil is referred to as “sweet” crude.)

Oil refineries might also receive shipments of coal to power plant operations.

Or the power/steam plant could be natural gas fired.

In areas where there are many different plants, there may often be independent cogeneration (supplying both power and steam) plants serving multiple industries. In the Sarnia area where I grew up, there are over a dozen different oil and chemical plants and a few different cogeneration plants.
