Hello. I am trying to build a refinery for my model railroad club, and I am searching for an diagram/schematic of a basic oil refinery piping system. I have all the basic componets but there is no instructions how to hook them together. Please vist our web site: www.modelengineers.com Thank you
The Plastruct refinery kit is supposed to be an accurate representation.

Banjonbene,
Here’s a link to a keyword search at the Index of Magazines :
http://index.mrmag.com/tm.exe?opt=S&cmdtext=oil+refinery&MAG=ANY
that yielded 8 apparently pertinent article citations. Have you tried a Google search ?

What exactly are you trying to model? If you are looking for a piping system for tank car loading & unloading, that’s a lot different than a cat-cracker, a coker, or a crude unit. Most of the refineries I have been in have rails some distance away from major operating units (which is a bonus for modeling since units are a maze of piping, pumps, heat exchangers, vessels, towers, heaters, …). Most refineries also have tracks to a warehouse area.
The Plastruct kit looks like a natural gas processing plant to me.
If you want pictures of a real crude oil refinery try this link. Lots of photos.
